Vedic astrology for a Texas birth
Most of Texas is Central time, and vedic astrology moves to Mountain time when the birth city is El Paso. Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, Plano, and Frisco are America/Chicago, with daylight saving. El Paso is not. The word of the state does not choose the minutes. The birth city is geocoded, and the minutes are applied before the Julian day, where daylight saving can still move the sidereal lagna.

The Central cities
A Houston birth is not a Dallas geocode, even though both use America/Chicago. Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Plano, and Frisco are the same kind of distinction: one zone, separate places. Type the city on the record and the clock time as printed. During daylight saving, do not subtract an hour. Jyothish SI applies the Central minutes for that date before the Julian day. Lahiri ayanamsa and Swiss Ephemeris place the Moon after that.
El Paso is the Mountain exception
An El Paso birth uses Mountain time, with daylight saving. Do not cast it on America/Chicago because the rest of the state is Central, and do not borrow a year-round Arizona offset from farther west. Enter El Paso. If you only know Texas, the chart cannot see whether you meant the Central majority or this exception. The Moon nakshatra and the running Vimshottari dasha will follow the zone you failed to name.
Houses after the city
A marriage question uses the 7th, the lord of the 7th, and D9. Career is read from the 10th house and its lord. A free account can generate the Kundli and chat once the city has chosen Central or Mountain. The paid additions are a PDF, extra divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts. The wrong Texas zone moves the lagna before those houses are worth reading.

Frequently asked questions
Is Austin on Central time?
Yes. Vedic astrology for Austin, Houston, Dallas, and the other Central Texas cities uses America/Chicago, with daylight saving. El Paso uses Mountain time.
Can I enter Texas instead of the city?
No. A state label cannot settle which offset applies. El Paso and a Central-time city need different minutes before the Julian day.
Do Dallas and Fort Worth share a geocode?
No. They share America/Chicago. Each city is geocoded under its own name. Type the one on the record.
