New York · USA
Vedic astrology for a birth in New York state
From New York City to the upstate counties, vedic astrology uses one zone: Eastern time, America/New_York. Buffalo and Albany are on that zone too. Daylight saving changes the minutes, which are applied before the Julian day and can move the sidereal lagna. The city of New York does not donate its geocode to a birth upstate. The state fixes the zone. The city on the record fixes the place.

Upstate is not a second zone
Nothing in the state switches to Central time. A birth in Albany or Buffalo is America/New_York, with daylight saving, and it is not a Manhattan chart with the label changed. Type the city the record names. Jyothish SI geocodes that city and applies the Eastern offset for the date. If you only type New York, you have not said which place you mean.
The zone name is not the birthplace
America/New_York is a clock. New York City is a city. They share words and, for a city birth, they share a calculation only when the city field actually says New York City. A summer hour stays as printed. Converting it to standard time doubles the daylight correction. Lahiri ayanamsa and Swiss Ephemeris then place the Moon nakshatra on the sidereal chart.
What the reading uses
The Vimshottari dasha already running supplies timing. The 7th house, its lord, and D9 are the marriage reading. Career uses the 10th and its lord. A free account will draw the figure and answer in chat. Extra divisional charts and a PDF, along with WhatsApp transit alerts, are paid. A resident born in another state should enter that birth city, not New York.

Frequently asked questions
Is upstate New York on Eastern time?
Yes. Vedic astrology for New York state uses America/New_York, with daylight saving, in the city and upstate. Buffalo and Albany are not a separate zone.
Is a Buffalo birth calculated as New York City?
No. They share the offset. Buffalo is geocoded as Buffalo. Type the city on the record.
Does daylight saving change the lagna?
It can. The minutes differ, and they are applied before the Julian day. Type the clock time. Do not convert a summer hour yourself.
