Vedic astrology for a Maine birth
Maine uses Eastern time, and vedic astrology should not file it under Atlantic time. The zone is America/New_York, with daylight saving, for a birth anywhere in the state. The minutes change when the clocks change, and they are applied before the Julian day, where they can move the sidereal lagna. Portland, Maine, and a town far up the coast share the zone. Each one is still its own geocode.

Atlantic time is the wrong neighbor
The state sits beside places that do use Atlantic time. Maine does not. Casting a Maine birth an hour off, because the map looks maritime, moves the lagna before any house is worth reading. Type the city and the clock time. Jyothish SI geocodes the city and applies the America/New_York offset for that date. Daylight saving selects the minutes. You do not.
Portland, Maine, is not a zone
There is another Portland on Pacific time. A Maine birth does not use that clock. If the record says Portland, keep the state clear so the geocoder does not resolve the Pacific city. The Eastern offset, Lahiri ayanamsa, and Swiss Ephemeris then place the Moon nakshatra. The Vimshottari dasha already running is the one on that result, not a year chosen for New England.
Houses and the free chart
The career text is the 10th house plus the 10th lord. For marriage, read the 7th house together with its lord and the Navamsa. Both are counted from the lagna this offset produced. A free account can draw the Kundli and chat about it. A paid plan is where the PDF, extra divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts live. None of them switch Maine onto Atlantic time.

Frequently asked questions
Does Maine use Atlantic time?
No. Vedic astrology for Maine uses Eastern time, America/New_York, with daylight saving. Atlantic time would apply the wrong minutes and can move the lagna.
Which Portland is on this page?
Portland, Maine, which is America/New_York. Portland, Oregon, is a Pacific-time city and a different chart. The birth city has to resolve to the right one.
Does the whole state share one zone?
Yes. The zone is America/New_York. The city is still geocoded, because the lagna is for a place, not for the state outline.
