Vedic astrology for an Iowa birth
Iowa stays on Central time from border to border, and vedic astrology names the zone America/Chicago. The western counties do not pick up Mountain time. Daylight saving still changes the minutes, and those minutes are applied before the Julian day, where they can move the sidereal lagna. Des Moines and a county seat on the Missouri River share the zone and need their own city names.

No Mountain strip on the west edge
A birth west of Des Moines is still America/Chicago. The Plains do not share one clock, but Iowa's side of that map does. Type the clock time on the record. A summer birth uses the daylight minutes and a winter birth uses the standard minutes. Editing the hour to 'correct' the season applies the change twice. The Lahiri ayanamsa and Swiss Ephemeris run after the offset is already in place.
The city is the place
Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and a small county seat are three geocodes inside one zone. Jyothish SI will not read the word Iowa as a location. If the family later moved to Omaha or farther west, where the zone can change, the chart still wants the Iowa city on the birth record. The current address donates nothing to the lagna.
Dasha and the tenth house
The Vimshottari dasha shown is the one already running. Work questions use the 10th house and the lord of the 10th. Marriage is read from the 7th house, its lord, and the D9 Navamsa. A free account covers the Kundli and the chat. PDF reports, extra divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts are paid additions, and they do not change the Iowa zone.

Frequently asked questions
Does western Iowa use Mountain time?
No. Vedic astrology for Iowa uses Central time, America/Chicago, statewide, with daylight saving. The birth city is geocoded inside that one zone.
What is applied before the Julian day?
The America/Chicago offset in minutes for the birth date, after the city is geocoded. Daylight saving selects which minutes those are.
Which dasha is used for timing?
The Vimshottari dasha already running on that chart. This page does not assign a dasha year to the state.
