Vedic astrology for an Indiana birth
Most of Indiana is Eastern time, and vedic astrology still has to stop for the Gary area, which uses Central time. Indianapolis is America/New_York. Gary, in the northwest, is not on that offset. The state name does not tell the chart which minutes to apply before the Julian day. The birth city does. Daylight saving on the side you were born can move the sidereal lagna after the right side is chosen.

Indianapolis is Eastern
A birth in Indianapolis uses America/New_York, with daylight saving. Type Indianapolis if that is the city, not a northwest address and not the word Indiana. The date, the clock time, and the city are the inputs. The Eastern offset for that date is applied before the Julian day. The Lahiri ayanamsa and Swiss Ephemeris then place the Moon nakshatra on the sidereal chart.
Gary keeps Central time
The Gary area in the northwest uses Central time. Do not cast that birth on America/New_York just because most of the state is Eastern. Enter the city so the geocoder can attach the Central offset, including daylight saving when the clocks were on it. If you are unsure which side a town falls on, the city string is the data. Guessing from the state will not settle the minutes.
Houses counted from the right lagna
Marriage reading needs the 7th house, its lord, and the D9 Navamsa. Career reading needs the 10th and its lord. The Vimshottari dasha already running supplies timing. A free account can build the Kundli and chat. The free chart stops short of the PDF, extra divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts. The wrong Indiana side moves the lagna before any of that is worth reading.

Frequently asked questions
Is Indianapolis Eastern or Central?
Eastern. Vedic astrology for Indianapolis uses America/New_York, with daylight saving. The Gary area in northwest Indiana uses Central time.
Does the word Indiana fix the offset?
No. The state is split. The Kundli needs the birth city because the state name alone does not fix the offset applied before the Julian day.
What three results come back?
The sidereal lagna, the Moon nakshatra, and the Vimshottari dasha already running, once the city has selected Eastern or Central time.
