Obstacles in education show up when the 4th house of schooling, the 5th house of intellect, or Mercury is in trouble. The usual yoga is the 5th lord in the 6th, 8th, or 12th, or Mercury in those houses, or Mercury debilitated in Pisces, or Mercury combust. The 4th lord in the 8th or 12th disturbs the school years more than the research years. Saturn on the 4th or 5th delays. Rahu in the 5th makes study restless, with Ketu in the 11th.

These are obstacles, not a ban. A 5th lord in the 6th can describe study through competition, medicine, or law, which is an obstacle that becomes a subject.

The pattern bites in the mahadasha of the afflicted lord, or of Mercury, whose full period is 17 years. A child whose opening dasha is a long Rahu balance, Moon in Ardra, Swati, or Shatabhisha, may meet restlessness early, and the 5th house may be fine. Another child with a fallen Mercury meets the obstacle when Mercury's period arrives, even if the birth star was praised.

Jupiter aspecting the 5th, from the 5th, 7th, or 9th relative to Jupiter, is the support inside an otherwise hard pattern. The D24, used for education, can confirm or soften what the birth chart threatens.

A weak 5th is not a medical label and not a measure of worth. It is a house under strain during certain years. The 3rd house of skill can still be strong, so the hands learn when the classroom does not. Read the child's chart, not the parent's fear. The parent's 5th is the child as a topic for the parent. The child's 4th and 5th are the schooling.

Time the support to the dasha. A tutor in the 5th lord's antardasha matches the clock better than a gem chosen from the birth star alone.
