Pushya, Luck, and the 9th House

Pushya is the nakshatra most often praised for good luck and for beginning a rite. It lies in Cancer. Its deity is Brihaspati, Jupiter's divine name, and its Vimshottari lord is Saturn. A Moon in Pushya therefore opens life in Saturn mahadasha, a balance of the 19-year period. The lucky star and the slow planet are the same birth. If the Moon is early in Pushya, the Saturn remainder is long, and the luck people expected is delivered, if at all, in Saturn's style: late, structural, and tied to duty.

The next mahadasha is Mercury, 17 years. Jupiter, the deity's planet, is not the opening lord.

Bhagya is the 9th house and the 9th lord, with Jupiter as karaka. A Pushya Moon in a chart whose 9th lord is debilitated is a praised birth star and a weak fortune house. A Moon in a sharp nakshatra with an exalted 9th lord is the reverse of the slogan. Cancer, Pushya's sign, is the 9th only for a Scorpio lagna. Then the lucky star sits in the luck house, and the Moon is in its own sign as well. For other lagnas Pushya is some other house, and the luck has to be read there.

Jupiter exalted in Cancer can share Pushya's sign. That is a strong Jupiter, not an automatic placement in every Pushya chart.

Choosing Pushya for a journey or a purchase uses the nakshatra as a muhurta. Being born under it uses the nakshatra as a dasha seed. The two uses should not be quoted as one promise. Saturn's condition still edits the opening years. Saturn exalted in Libra gives that Pushya child a capable slow start. Saturn debilitated in Aries gives the praised star a fallen dasha lord.
