Which Planet Is Called Maraka

The planet called maraka is whichever planet rules the 2nd or the 7th house. Those two houses are the maraka houses in the longevity chapter, and their lords carry the role. For Aries lagna both houses belong to Venus, so Venus is the maraka. For Libra lagna both belong to Mars, so Mars is the maraka. For Gemini the 2nd lord is the Moon and the 7th lord is Jupiter. There is no answer to the question that stays the same for every chart.

Saturn is sometimes feared as a killer by nature. In this chapter Saturn is a maraka only when it rules the 2nd or the 7th, as it does for Cancer, where Saturn rules both.

A maraka dasha is the mahadasha of that 2nd or 7th lord, and it brings the topics of those houses: family, speech, money, marriage, partners. The longevity texts also discuss the role when they discuss the end of life. This page names the role so the word is not a mystery. It does not compute a death, describe a method of harm, or treat the dasha as a sentence.

Venus as maraka for Aries still lasts 20 years and can describe marriage, because Venus is also the 7th lord. The marriage reading and the longevity label are two uses of one lordship. Using only the frightening use is a bad reading.

A maraka exalted, Venus in Pisces or Mars in Capricorn, is a capable planet who happens to own those houses. A maraka debilitated is a weak owner of family and partnership. The Navamsa shows whether the role is graceful. Jupiter aspecting the 2nd or 7th lord does not remove the lordship. Lordship is geometry.

Ask for the lagna before you ask for the maraka's name. Without the lagna the 2nd and 7th have no lords, and the word is empty.
