Life Path Digits Are Not the Nine Grahas
The nine life-path types are a numerology sorting. They do not match the nine mahadasha lords, and they do not share a house.

Digits versus dasha lords
The types of life path are the digits 1 through 9, sometimes with 11, 22, or 33 left unreduced. Each digit is what remains after the birth date is added and collapsed. None of those digits is Ketu, Venus, the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, or Mercury. The Vimshottari lords have fixed years, from the Sun's 6 to Venus's 20. A life path of 1 does not last 6 years, and a life path of 6 does not last 20.
Popular maps that assign the digits to planets are a modern overlay. They are not nakshatra lordship and not the lord of the lagna.
Why two people of one type diverge
Two people with the same digit can have opposite rising signs, because the lagna changes about every two hours and the life path never sees the clock. One can be in Saturn mahadasha, 19 years of weight, and the other in Venus mahadasha, 20 years of a very different graha. The digit cannot see exaltation. Venus exalted in Pisces and Venus debilitated in Virgo can share a life-path number and not share a marriage karaka.
The 10th house will tell you more about work than the paragraph printed under a digit. The 7th will tell you more about marriage.
Use the type as a mirror, not a chart
If the birth time is missing, the honest limit is that the houses are unknown. The Moon may still be readable from the date, and with the Moon comes a nakshatra and an opening dasha. That is a partial Jyotish reading. Promoting the life-path digit into a substitute lagna invents houses the horizon never gave you.
Keep the digit if you like what it reflects about the calendar. Time a decision from the mahadasha once the Moon's star is known, and from the lagna once the time is known.
Frequently asked questions
Do the nine life paths match the nine planets?
Only in modern overlays. The digits come from the birth date. The mahadasha lords come from the Moon's nakshatra.
Can the same life path share one career?
No. Career is the 10th house from the lagna. The digit does not know the rising sign.
What should replace a missing birth time?
Say the houses are unknown. The Moon's nakshatra, if the date fixes it, can still name the opening dasha.
