Rahu's Better Houses, Lagna by Lagna

Rahu's cleaner positions are the 3rd, 6th, and 11th houses, the upachayas, where a malefic is expected to improve through effort. The 3rd gives courage and skill. The 6th gives competition and service. The 11th gives gains. The 7th is the marriage complaint, whatever the lagna. The 1st makes the personality itself nodal. That house ranking is the stable part.

The sign of each house is the part that changes. Asking for the best Rahu in various lagnas is really asking which rashi lands on those three houses.

For Cancer lagna the 3rd is Virgo, the 6th is Sagittarius, and the 11th is Taurus. Rahu in Taurus then sits in the gains house in Venus's sign, with Ketu in Scorpio in the 5th. Rahu in Sagittarius sits in the 6th in Jupiter's sign, with Ketu in Gemini in the 12th. Both are upachaya Rahus. They are not the same life.

For Taurus lagna the 3rd is Cancer, the 6th is Libra, and the 11th is Pisces. Rahu in Libra is in the 6th, in Venus's sign, and Venus is the lagna lord. Rahu in Pisces is in the 11th, in Jupiter's sign. Saturn, yogakaraka for Taurus, is not required to host Rahu for the placement to be workable.

The same addition, count three, six, and eleven from the lagna, gives the signs for any rising sign you actually have. A list that crowns Gemini or Taurus for every chart is using a disputed exaltation story. Texts do not agree on a single exaltation for Rahu, so this page will not pretend they do.

After the house is chosen, read the sign lord and the 18-year mahadasha. A beautiful upachaya Rahu whose sign lord is debilitated still has a weak manager. The Navamsa of that sign lord is the check.
