Preta Dosha and the 8th House

There is no one Parashara combination whose name is preta dosha. Preta, a departed spirit imagined as unfinished, is a religious and folk category. Astrologers who use the phrase usually point at the 8th house, the house of death and of what lingers, or at the Moon conjunct Rahu or Ketu. The Moon is the mind. A node on the Moon is an eclipse picture for the mind. The 8th is longevity, breaks, and secrecy.

Those are real factors. The ghost story attached to them is not required by the factors. A Moon-Ketu conjunction can describe detachment without anyone in the family being haunted.

You cannot get rid of the 8th house. It is one of the twelve. You cannot get rid of a Moon-node conjunction without pretending the birth changed. Rites offered under this name are religious acts. They do not edit Swiss Ephemeris positions. This page will not describe an exorcism, a binding, or a method aimed at a person.

What you can do is read the 8th lord, the Moon's dignity, and the dasha. The Moon's mahadasha lasts 10 years. Ketu's lasts 7. Rahu's lasts 18. If the conjunction exists, those are the years it can be loud. Jupiter aspecting the Moon from the proper distance is the softener inside the chart.

Families often apply this label after a run of bad dreams or a death. The death is a fact of life. The chart check, if a birth time exists, is whether the 8th lord is weak and whether the Moon is with a node. If neither is true, the label is the fear, not the kundli.

Scorpio is the Moon's debilitation. A Moon in the 8th in Scorpio, lagna Aries, is a harder lunar 8th than a Moon in the 8th in a friendly sign. Even that case is a dignity problem, not a spirit's name.
