Pitru Dosha and the 9th House

Pitru dosha is read from the 9th house, the house of the father, the ancestors, and dharma. The popular markers are the Sun or the 9th lord joined with Rahu, Ketu, or Saturn, and Saturn occupying the 9th. The Sun is the natural significator of the father, so Sun conjunct Rahu is the version people call an eclipse on the father significator. The 9th lord in the 8th or 12th can belong in the same conversation because the house of ancestors is then managed from a dusthana.

A quiet 9th with a strong Sun is not pitru dosha, whatever a family story says. The chart condition and the family story are different evidence.

The theme becomes timed in the mahadasha of the Sun, which lasts 6 years, of Saturn, which lasts 19, of the node involved, or of the 9th lord. A Sun-Rahu conjunction is loudest in Sun mahadasha and in Rahu's 18 years. It can describe distance from the father, a complicated inheritance of duty, or a restless relationship to teachers and lineage. It does not hand this page a disease or a script of who wronged whom.

Jupiter in the 9th, or Jupiter aspecting the 9th from the 5th, 7th, or 9th house relative to itself, is the softener. Jupiter is the karaka of the 9th as well as of counsel.

Shraddha, tarpan, and ordinary respect toward elders are religious responses to the 9th house. They belong to dharma. They do not move Saturn out of the 9th or separate the Sun from Rahu. A paid rite that claims to delete pitru dosha is selling a relocation of planets.

If you do the religious duty, still read the 9th lord's dignity and the Navamsa of the Sun. A vargottama 9th lord carries the house more steadily than a fallen one. The ancestors are not a substitute for that judgment.
