Life Path Numerology and the Dasha

Life-path numerology reduces the birth date to a digit, or sometimes leaves 11, 22, or 33 unreduced. The method adds the month, the day, and the year. It does not look at the eastern horizon, so it cannot name a lagna, and it does not look at the Moon's nakshatra, so it cannot name the opening mahadasha.

The Vimshottari sequence is Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, and Mercury 17. Nothing in that list is produced by adding a calendar date. Two people with life path 7 can be in Saturn mahadasha and Venus mahadasha at the same age.

A single digit is easy to remember, and the paragraphs attached to it are written to be widely recognizable. The lagna is harder. It needs a time and a city, and it changes about every two hours. People reach for the life path when the birth time is missing. The honest substitute for a missing time is to say the houses are unknown and the Moon may still be readable from the date, not to promote the digit into a lagna lord.

Some books map 1 to the Sun, 2 to the Moon, and so on. That map is a modern gloss. It is not house lordship and not nakshatra lordship.

Keep the life path as a reflection on the birth date if you enjoy the method. Time events from the dasha. Marriage from the 7th lord and Venus. Work from the 10th lord. Money from the 2nd and 11th lords. A life path of 8 does not put Saturn in the 10th, even in systems that call 8 Saturn's number.

If the digit and the running mahadasha tell opposite stories, believe the nakshatra. The date sum cannot see exaltation, debilitation, or the Navamsa.
