Ardra Nakshatra and Its Reputation

Ardra is the nakshatra in Gemini ruled by Rahu, with Rudra as its deity. A Moon in Ardra opens life in Rahu mahadasha, whose full length is 18 years and whose balance at birth is only the remainder. The symbol traditionally given is a teardrop, and the deity is storm and dissolution that makes room for a next thing. That is a fierce image. It is also a muhurta classification: Ardra is tikshna, sharp, grouped with Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, and Mula.

Sharp nakshatras are avoided for gentle rites such as marriage muhurta. A person born under one is not therefore a bad nakshatra wearing a body.

Ardra's rashi is Gemini, Mercury's sign. If the lagna is Gemini, this Moon is in the 1st and the mind and the body share a sign. If the lagna is Virgo, Gemini is the 10th, and Ardra describes a public, restless career mind. Mercury's condition modifies Rahu's opening years, because the Moon sits in Mercury's sign while Rahu runs the clock.

Rahu in the upachaya houses, the 3rd, 6th, and 11th, is a more workable Rahu than Rahu in the 7th. Ardra does not tell you which of those Rahu occupies. The Moon's star and Rahu's house are different points.

Ardra's ruler is the eclipse node, its deity is Rudra, and its class is sharp. Three stern labels stack. None of them debilitate the Moon. The Moon's debilitation is Scorpio, not Gemini. A Moon in Ardra can be bright, waxing, and mentally quick.

Judge the remainder of Rahu, the house Gemini occupies, and Mercury. If those are sound, Ardra is a penetrating birth star with an 18-year lord, not a verdict.
