Rahu mahadasha lasts 18 years. The next period in the Vimshottari sequence is Jupiter, which lasts 16. The junction is a change of lord, from the north node to the karaka of wisdom, children, teachers, and dharma. It is not a guaranteed rescue. Jupiter delivers the houses Jupiter occupies and rules from the lagna.
