What Happens in Shukra Mahadasha

Shukra mahadasha lasts 20 years, the longest span in the 120-year Vimshottari cycle. It opens with the Venus antardasha, then proceeds to the Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, and Ketu. The opening slice is Venus judging Venus. Later slices hand the same 20 years to other lords, so a hard Saturn antardasha inside Shukra is not proof that Venus is weak. It is Saturn's topics visiting Venus's period.

What improves or strains is the houses Venus owns from the lagna, the house Venus occupies, and Venus's sign. Exaltation is Pisces. Debilitation is Virgo. Own signs are Taurus and Libra.

Venus is the karaka of marriage, agreement, vehicles, scent, and art. For a man it also signifies the wife. The 7th lord's condition still matters. If Venus is the 7th lord, as it is for Aries and Scorpio lagnas, these 20 years are directly marital. For Scorpio, Venus also rules the 12th, so marriage and expense share a lord. For Capricorn and Aquarius, Venus is yogakaraka, and the period can carry status as well as comfort.

A debilitated Venus in Virgo spends the same 20 years with a weaker karaka. The Navamsa can repair part of that. It cannot lengthen the mahadasha.

If Venus owns the 6th or the 8th, or sits with Rahu, Ketu, or Saturn, the period includes conflict, breaks, or delay along with Venusian topics. Rahu with Venus inside a Venus mahadasha intensifies wanting. Saturn with Venus slows the pleasure the period was supposed to provide.

Transits of Jupiter over the 7th can trigger a wedding only inside an antardasha that already allows it. The transit does not replace Shukra. When the 20 years end, the next mahadasha is the Sun, a 6-year period of a very different graha.
