What Sunapha Yoga Means

Sunfa yoga is the common misspelling of Sunapha, and Sunapha means grahas occupying the 2nd house from the Moon. The Sun, Rahu, and Ketu are not counted as the occupying planets for this yoga. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn in that 2nd sign, alone or together, form it. Anapha is the mirror: those grahas in the 12th from the Moon. Durudhara is both sides occupied. Kemadruma is the Moon with neither side occupied, a yoga of emotional bareness with its own exceptions. Sunapha would be false if it were 'the Sun in a good house,' which is a different reading entirely. The Moon is the reference point. A person can have Sunapha with the Sun debilitated, or lack Sunapha with the Sun exalted. The solar condition is not the yoga.

Sunapha is classed among the lunar yogas that support self-earned resources, status built by one's own effort, and a comfortable 2nd-house life, because the 2nd from the Moon is wealth relative to the mind and the body of the Moon. The graha that creates it changes the flavour. Jupiter there leans to counsel, children, or lawful gain. Venus leans to comfort and agreement. Mars leans to effort, property, or strife in the earning. Saturn leans to slow, structural gain. None of these is a raja yoga by itself, and none replaces the 2nd lord from the lagna. A Moon with Venus in the next sign can still sit in a chart whose lagna 2nd lord is ruined. The yoga is a support from the Moon, not the whole financial chart. D9 should show the graha strong enough to pay what the rashi chart promises.

Because the name is misread as solar, people reach for ruby. Ruby strengthens the Sun, who is excluded from forming Sunapha. If you want to support the yoga, you would look at the graha that actually sits 2nd from the Moon, and only if that graha is a welcome lord. Often the right move is no gem at all. The yoga operates in the dasha of the graha that forms it, and in the Moon's dasha, 10 years, when the mind's resources are the chapter. It does not operate because the Sun is in period, unless the Sun's period happens to coincide with other strength. When you see the spelling Sunfa, translate it back to Sunapha, check the 2nd from the Moon, ignore the nodes and the Sun as occupants, and then read Anapha only if you meant the 12th. The two yogas are neighbours. They are not the same sentence.
