What a Birth Chart Actually Tells

A birth chart is a map of houses and a clock of dashas. It is not a verdict written in one lucky sign.

Two starting points

The lagna fixes the twelve houses, and the Moon's nakshatra fixes which Vimshottari mahadasha is running at birth. Everything people ask a chart to tell, work, marriage, money, study, has to pass through those two facts. The Sun's rashi is the solar month sign. It is not the lagna, and it does not choose the dasha.

Jyothish SI casts that lagna in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. The birth city is geocoded, and the zone offset in minutes is applied before the Julian day. Daylight saving changes the offset, so it can change the rising sign. A chart told from a date alone has no lagna worth trusting.

Lords, not slogans

The 10th lord tells about work when its period runs. The 7th lord tells about marriage. The 2nd and 11th lords tell about money. A planet can own a fine house and occupy a hard one, and both facts stay true. Exaltation, own sign, debilitation, and the Navamsa modify the lord. They do not replace the house numbers.

A free account can generate the kundli and talk with the astrologer. The telling still requires a birth time. Without it, the Moon sign can be discussed and the houses cannot.

What it will not say

The chart does not name a stranger, a bank balance, or a diagnosis. It times topics. Venus mahadasha lasts 20 years and can carry marriage and comfort if Venus owns or occupies the relevant house. Saturn lasts 19 and carries weight, delay, and the houses Saturn rules. Neither period is a personality type.

If two readers disagree, compare the lagna, the Moon nakshatra, and the mahadasha they think is running. Most disagreements are a wrong time or a tropical sign used in place of a sidereal one.

Frequently asked questions

Can a chart be read from the birthday alone?

The Moon may be knowable from the date. The lagna needs the time, the city, and the zone offset, including daylight saving.

Which fact starts the clock?

The Moon's nakshatra. Its lord is the opening mahadasha, with a balance set by how far the Moon has moved through that star.

Does the Sun sign lead the reading?

The Sun is one graha. Houses are counted from the lagna, and the dasha is counted from the Moon's nakshatra.
