Children in the Chart: the 5th House and Jupiter

Count the 5th from the lagna. Its lord in a kendra or trikona supports the house. Its lord in the 6th, 8th, or 12th delays or complicates it. Jupiter's condition is the second test, because Jupiter is the natural significator of children. A strong 5th lord with Jupiter combust or debilitated in Capricorn is a mixed chart, not a single yes. The Saptamsa, D7, is the divisional chart associated with children. It is worth reading only when the birth time is accurate enough to trust the lagna.

The matter becomes active in the mahadasha or antardasha of the 5th lord, of Jupiter, or of a planet in the 5th. Jupiter's mahadasha lasts 16 years. A whole mahadasha of a planet that does not touch the 5th can be a long quiet stretch even in a chart that has the promise. That is a timing statement. It is not a diagnosis of either body, and it is not a prediction that a child will be born in a named year. A physician is the person who speaks about the body. The chart speaks about the house and the period.

The 5th of one spouse can be supported while the other's 5th lord is in the 12th. Read both lagnas if both birth times exist. The 7th house is the marriage around the question, not a substitute for the 5th. A strained 7th lord's dasha can make the household too stormy to read as a children problem. Separate the two houses. Then look at the antardasha that is actually running this year, from the Moon's nakshatra, not from the wedding anniversary.
