April Muhurat and Mesha Sankranti

Jyotish uses a sidereal zodiac. The Sun's entry into Aries, Mesha Sankranti, falls around the middle of April. A muhurta sheet for April 2022 therefore straddled two solar months: the end of Meena and the start of Mesha. Those two halves do not share a quality just because they share the English month name. Any later April list has to be split at that year's sankranti, and the 2022 dates themselves are finished.

Chaitra and Vaishakha are the lunar months that usually touch this part of the year. Chaitra Shukla Pratipada begins Chaitra Navratri. A wedding or a griha pravesh printed under an April headline may actually sit in either lunar month, and the tithi rules differ by the act. Marriage still wants its own nakshatras, among them Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati. Regional panchangs add or drop one.

The moment the Sun changes signs is a sandhi, a junction. Muhurta practice does not start a wedding or a house entry in the hours around that moment. The rest of April is ordinary panchang work: avoid rikta tithis for shubha karma, avoid Bhadra, and choose the lagna after sunrise in the city where the act happens. Daylight saving, where the city observes it, changes that sunrise offset.
