Check a Partner's Kundli for Doshas Before Marriage

Mangal dosha is Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th from the lagna. Many North Indian matchers also count those houses from the Moon and from Venus. Nadi is the Moon's group, Adi, Madhya, or Antya, and it holds 8 of the 36 guna points. The same nadi scores zero. Bhakoot holds 7 points and scores zero when the Moon signs are 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 12 signs apart. Varna, vashya, tara, yoni, graha maitri, and gana make up the rest of the 36.

The guna score compares two Moons. Marriage in the kundli is the 7th house, the 7th lord, and the Navamsa. A pair can pass a family cutoff of 18 points, which is a custom rather than a verse of Parashara, and still have a 7th lord in the 6th, 8th, or 12th. Another pair can lose Nadi or Bhakoot and still show a clean 7th house with the 7th lord's Vimshottari period running near the wedding. The label and the house can disagree. Read both.

Use both birth times and both birth cities. The zone offset is applied before the chart is cast, and daylight saving can move the lagna, which moves Mars from one house to another. Note the sign Mars occupies. In Aries, Scorpio, or Capricorn, Mars is in its own sign or its exaltation, and matchers often treat the condition as softer. If both charts carry Mangal dosha, the old matching rule treats the pair as balanced. Then name the mahadasha and antardasha that will actually be running.
