Kushmanda on Chaturthi of Navratri

Kushmanda is worshipped on Shukla Chaturthi, the fourth bright tithi of Navratri, and the name is understood as the one who holds a little warmth in the cosmic egg, ku, ushma, and anda. That egg would be the wrong emblem for Brahmacharini's rosary on Dwitiya or for Kaalratri's night on Saptami. Chaturthi falls in Chaitra and again in Ashwin, the two Navratris. No civil date is stable. Royal blue, or any other colour attached to her in a yearly list, is a dress custom of some communities and a different colour in others. It is not a classical identifier, and it is not a lucky colour for a rashi. The identifier is the tithi plus the form. She is commonly shown with many arms, riding a lion, carrying the pot or the egg of creation among her weapons and lotuses. The lion distinguishes her vehicle from Shailputri's bull.

The puranic praise says the worlds are lit by her, including a tradition that places her light in the Sun. That is devotion, not an instruction to wear ruby because Chaturthi has arrived. The Sun in a birth chart is still the Sun, exalted in Mesha and fallen in Tula, regardless of the festival. A person may recite the Durga Saptashati on this day as part of the nine-night reading. The third, fourth, and fifth days do not each own a separate planet. Families offer food according to their custom. Some mark Chaturthi as a slightly more generous worship than the austere second day, because the goddess is the abundant creator rather than the wanderer. That is a household mood, not a rule of the panchang. The panchang's job is only to say when Chaturthi is in force.

Creativity and children are the 5th house, and it is tempting to assign Kushmanda's egg to the 5th for the length of one tithi. The 5th lord does not change on Chaturthi. Jupiter remains putra karaka. A festival day does not promise a conception or a project. If you are keeping the vow, keep the fourth form on the fourth tithi and leave the lagna alone. If you are asking whether to begin a venture, that is a muhurta question for the whole panchang, not a property of this goddess. Chaturthi is also associated in other months with Vinayaka, and those monthly Chaturthis are not Navratri. Do not merge Ganesh Chaturthi with Kushmanda's night. One is a monthly or annual Ganesh observance. The other is day four of the Devi's nine. The egg, the lion, and the tithi are enough.
