Vishnu Puja and the Jupiter Question

Vishnu puja addresses Vishnu on a tithi such as Ekadashi, and it is tied to Jupiter only when the Vimshottari dasha already running has named Jupiter. Thursday is Jupiter's weekday, and Ekadashi, the eleventh lunar day, is the household tithi kept for Vishnu. Satyanarayan puja is one form of this worship, usually told as a katha on a full moon. None of these rites exist to cash every wish on a list. They are worship of Vishnu. An astrologer mentions them when Jupiter is the graha under discussion: Jupiter as putrakaraka of the 5th house of children, Jupiter as the 9th lord of dharma, or Jupiter as the dasha lord of the period the person is actually in.

Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces. From a Sagittarius lagna he is the lagna lord, so a Jupiter period is a period of the self. From a Pisces lagna he rules the 1st and the 10th, so career and the body share him. From a Cancer lagna he rules the 6th and the 9th, a mixed role of conflict and fortune, and strengthening him is not automatically gentle. Exalted Jupiter sits in Cancer. Debilitated Jupiter sits in Capricorn. A puja recommended for a fallen Jupiter during Jupiter's own bhukti has a chart reason. A puja recommended for a stranger's birthday, with no lagna, has a shop reason. Ask which house Jupiter rules in your Lahiri chart before you book the priest.

A wish for marriage still returns to the 7th house and the D9 Navamsa. A wish for a child still returns to the 5th. A wish for status still returns to the 10th house and its lord. If those houses are denied in the chart and the dasha, a Vishnu katha does not vote them back in. If Jupiter is the 5th lord and his dasha is running, the puja sits beside a chapter that was already about children and wisdom. Keep the vidhi your priest actually uses.
