The Three Nadis and the Nakshatras in Each
Ashtakoota uses three nadis, and each nadi holds nine nakshatras. Adi takes Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Mula, Shatabhisha, and Purva Bhadrapada. Madhya takes Bharani, Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta, and Uttara Bhadrapada. Antya takes Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, and Revati.

Type is membership
The sequence zigzags rather than running in threes of a single nadi. Ashwini is Adi, Bharani Madhya, Krittika and Rohini both Antya, Mrigashira Madhya, then Ardra and Punarvasu Adi, and the pattern continues to Revati, which is Antya. Once you know the Moon's nakshatra, the type is a lookup, not a judgment about character. Two Antya Moons, for example Rohini and Shravana, share a nadi even though one Moon is in Vrishabha and the other in Makara. That is enough for Nadi dosha. Their signs still face a separate bhakoot test. Their lords still face graha maitri. Type does not swallow the other seven kootas.
Ayurvedic names, astrological use
Adi is glossed as Vata, Madhya as Pitta, Antya as Kapha. The gloss explains why the tradition fussed about this koota. It does not turn a matching slip into a clinical constitution you can treat from a horoscope. Remedies in the popular sense, donations and vows, sit outside the lookup. The lookup itself is the whole type system: nine, nine, and nine. If a website lists a different star under Adi, it is using a nonstandard table or it has miscounted. The lists above are the standard guna assignment. Jyothish SI's job is to find the nakshatra with Lahiri ayanamsa so the lookup starts from the right star.
Where remedies actually sit
After the type is known, the marriage reading returns to houses. The 7th lord's dasha times the wedding pressure. Venus times the bond across twenty years. The 5th lord times children as a natal topic across whatever span that lord owns. None of those lords is chosen by Adi, Madhya, or Antya. A couple who share Antya nadi and have both 7th lords in kendras is a different conversation from a couple who share Antya and have both 7th lords in the 8th. The type explains the zero. The houses explain the life. Mixing them into one remedy paragraph hides which problem you are trying to address.
Frequently asked questions
How many nakshatras sit in each nadi?
Nine. Adi, Madhya, and Antya cover all twenty-seven. Same group scores 0 of 8. Different groups score 8.
Are Rohini and Shravana the same nadi?
Yes. Both are Antya, with Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, and Revati. Their Moon signs can still differ.
Does the nadi type choose the 7th lord?
No. The 7th lord comes from the lagna. Nadi comes from the Moon's nakshatra. Both are used, and they are not the same test.
