The 8th Lord Gives a Raja Yoga Only When It Also Rules a Kendra or Trikona

The 8th lord gives a raja yoga in the ordinary sense only when it also rules a kendra or a trikona, as Mars does for an Aries lagna, where Mars rules both the 1st and the 8th. A strong Mars then carries the body and the 8th together: vitality mixed with rupture, research, or other people's money. That is not a clean kingship. It is a lagna lord who cannot put the 8th down. For Scorpio lagna Mars rules the 1st and the 6th, not the 8th. The 8th lord there is Mercury. Do not call every 8th lord a yogakaraka. The double lordship is the whole trick, and it is rare.

Sarala yoga is the 8th lord in the 6th, 8th, or 12th. It belongs to the viparita raja family, with Harsha for the 6th lord and Vimala for the 12th lord. The rise, when it comes, comes through crisis, competition, or a break, not through a smooth 9th-house fortune. People hear rajyog and expect a throne. Sarala's effect is narrower: the dusthana lord spends its harm in dusthanas and the person can rise by dealing with what others avoid. If the 8th lord also rules a kendra, you may have both stories. Say both. If it rules only the 8th and sits in the 1st, you have the 8th in the body, which is not Sarala and not a raja yoga.

The 8th lord's mahadasha is the test. If that lord is Jupiter, the test is 16 years. If it is the Sun, the test is 6. During those years the mixed lordship shows. Outside them, do not live as if the yoga were the whole biography. A fallen 8th lord forms a weak version of whatever pattern the houses suggest. Neecha bhanga can restore capacity and does not delete the 8th topics. The effect to expect is uneven gain: authority in a field that handles crisis, money that is shared or sudden, a life that is publicly fine and privately intense. If you wanted a pure kendra-trikona raja yoga, look for a lord who rules a kendra and a trikona without the 8th attached.
