Kaal Sarp Is All Seven Planets on One Side of the Nodes

The name sounds fatal. The geometry is a bunching of Sun through Saturn between the two nodes. The houses of the nodes do the rest.

The axis, not a death yoga

Kaal Sarp is the name used when all seven physical planets, Sun through Saturn, lie to one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis. Rahu and Ketu are always opposite each other. The seven can cluster in the shorter arc between them, or one of them can slip across and break the pattern. A single planet outside that arc is why many readers refuse to call the chart a full Kaal Sarp. Deadly is the wrong word. The pattern does not schedule a death. Longevity is the 8th house and its lord, a separate judgment, and it is not a date this page will give. The nodes occupy two houses. Those two houses are the life areas the pattern actually touches.

What the bunching changes

When every planet is on one side, the opposite arc is empty. Experience piles into the occupied signs and the houses they are from the lagna. If the empty arc includes the 10th, career may feel delayed until a node or a dispositor runs. If the occupied arc includes the 10th, career is crowded with every graha's agenda. The pattern is natal. It does not expire at the end of a year. Rahu mahadasha, 18 years, and Ketu mahadasha, 7 years, are when people feel it most, because the axis lords are running. Outside those periods a Jupiter or Venus mahadasha can be ordinary and successful inside the same geometry.

Partial is not fatal either

If one planet stands outside the arc, do not upgrade the chart to the full name in order to sell a fear. That planet is the breach, and its house is where life does not follow the nodal pile. A strong lagna lord inside the pile can still carry the body. A weak lagna lord is a hard chart for reasons that may not need the Kaal Sarp label at all. Read the two nodal houses, read the dispositor of Rahu, and read the 8th only if the question is longevity, with the caution that belongs there. Drop the word deadly. Keep the count of planets. Seven on one side is the whole definition.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kaal Sarp mean an early death?

No. It means the seven planets are on one side of Rahu and Ketu. The 8th house is the longevity topic, and a yoga name is not a length of life.

What if one planet is outside the arc?

Many readers then do not count a full Kaal Sarp. That planet is the exception. Say so instead of forcing the label.

Which dashas make the pattern loud?

Rahu's 18 years and Ketu's 7 years, and their antardashas inside other mahadashas. Other lords can run quietly in the same chart.
