Mental Strength Is a Strong Moon and a Strong Mercury

Mental steadiness is a strong Moon and a strong Mercury, not a winning rashi. The Moon is manas, the feeling mind, exalted in Taurus and debilitated in Scorpio. Mercury is buddhi, exalted in Virgo and debilitated in Pisces. A person can have the Moon in its own sign Cancer and Mercury fallen, which is a steady mood and a tangled judgment, or the reverse. Fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, are sthira. They hold a purpose. That quality appears if the Moon or Mercury is in a fixed sign, or if the lagna is fixed and its lord is sound. It does not crown Scorpio as the strongest mind for every birth.

Movable signs start things. Dual signs hold two lines at once. A dual Mercury in Gemini can be quicker than a fixed Mercury that is combust. Combustion is a solar proximity and should be calculated, not guessed. The 4th house is peace, so a broken 4th lord can exhaust a strong Moon. The 5th is intelligence, so the 5th lord styles the intellect. Rankings that name four rashis skip both houses. They also skip paksha. A waxing Moon is classed as a benefic. A waning Moon is classed with the malefics. Two people with the Moon in Leo can differ by paksha alone.

Moon mahadasha lasts 10 years and makes manas the chapter. Mercury's lasts 17 and makes sorting, speech, and study the chapter. Saturn's 19 years can feel mentally heavy even with a strong natal Moon, because Saturn slows the houses it touches. That heaviness is a dasha, not proof the rashi was weak. If the birth time is unknown, the Moon sign may be knowable and the lagna is not. Do not promote a Chandra rashi to mental champion. Say the Moon's sign, say Mercury's sign, say whether Saturn aspects the Moon. That is the strength test the chart actually contains.
