Rahu Is a Shadow Graha with No Classical Sign of Its Own

Rahu is a chhaya graha, a shadow node, and it does not rule a rashi in the classical seven-lord scheme. It is grouped with the natural malefics, beside Saturn, Mars, Ketu, and the waning Moon. Malefic there means a sharp, grasping, outsized delivery, not a verdict that the person is negative. Rahu amplifies the house it occupies and hands the result to the dispositor, the lord of that sign. Rahu in the 11th with a strong dispositor can enlarge gains. Rahu in the 8th with a weak dispositor can enlarge confusion about shared money. The house and the lord do the ethical work. The word negative does not.

The 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th are upachaya houses, and Rahu is traditionally less troublesome there because those houses grow by effort, competition, and visibility. Rahu in the 10th is a known public placement. Rahu in the 7th is harder on marriage because the 7th wants a bond and Rahu wants an unusual, sometimes obsessive one. Even that is not pure harm. It can be a foreign spouse or a marriage outside custom, which many lives absorb. Functional nature still depends on the dispositor's lordship. If the dispositor rules the 9th and is strong, Rahu borrows luck. If the dispositor rules the 8th and is fallen, Rahu borrows the fall.

Rahu mahadasha lasts 18 years. Calling the graha negative turns a long, ordinary dasha into a superstition. The eighteen years follow the house Rahu occupies and the antardasha lords. Jupiter's antardasha inside Rahu can teach and expand. Saturn's can slow and structure. Ketu's, at the other end of life or of the sequence, releases. None of these sub-periods becomes wholesome by denying that Rahu is a malefic, and none becomes doomed by admitting it. Read the sign. Name the dispositor. Keep Ketu, always opposite, in the same sentence so you do not treat one node as the villain and forget the other.
