A life partner is read from the 7th house, and the karaka splits by the chart. In a man's chart Venus signifies the wife. In a woman's chart Jupiter signifies the husband. Using Venus as the husband is the error, and using Jupiter as the wife is the matching error. The 7th lord still describes the spouse for both. If that lord is in the 9th, the partner is tied to dharma, a teacher, or distance. If the lord is in the 6th, the partnership carries conflict, service, or debt. If Venus, in a man's chart, is strong and the 7th lord is in the 6th, you have a capable karaka and a difficult house, not a single adjective. D9 has to show the same grahas willing. A life partner predicted only from the rashi 7th, with Navamsa ignored, is half a prediction.

You can know the likely setting: work, if the 7th lord is in the 10th; a private or foreign bond, if it is in the 12th; a family-heavy bond, if the 2nd is involved. You can know delay if Saturn occupies or aspects the 7th. You can know heat if Mars is in the Mangal houses, the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th from the lagna, Moon, or Venus. You cannot know the name, the face, or the city beyond a traditional direction that should be held lightly. Complexion and height lists tied to signs are the costume version of this question. They fail often enough that they should not be offered as knowledge. The Moon's nakshatra enters when there is a second chart to match, not when you are alone and curious. One horoscope describes your side of the contract. It does not summon a person.

Knowing about the partner includes knowing when the description is live. The Vimshottari period of the 7th lord, or of Venus or Jupiter in their karaka roles, is the season. A clear 7th lord during a 10th-lord dasha may describe a partner you have not met while you are busy with work. That is not a wrong chart. It is a chart whose marriage chapter has not opened. If the 7th lord is combust, close to the Sun, the description itself is muted and should be said softly. If the birth time is uncertain, the 7th sign may be wrong and the 'life partner' you were given belongs to the next lagna. Fix the time before you remember a portrait. The useful knowledge is structural: this lord, this house, this karaka, this navamsa, this dasha. A portrait that goes further is storytelling.
