Birth Month Numbers Are Not Grahas
The birth-month number in numerology is the month's place in the civil calendar, 1 for January through 12 for December, sometimes reduced by adding digits. That digit is not a graha. The Sun's rashi changes about once a month and is the only astronomical cousin of a birth month, and even that slips on ingress days.

What the digit can be used for
Inside numerology, the month number is one ingredient of a life-path total or a personal-month cycle. Those systems reduce dates and compare digits. They never ask for a birth time, so they never produce a lagna, a 7th lord, or a Vimshottari period. A person born in month 4 and a person born in month 5 can share a lagna and a Saturn mahadasha. The digit did not cause the Saturn. If you enjoy the number as a symbol, keep it as a symbol. Do not let it choose a gem, a spouse, or a career. Those choices, if the chart is invited at all, come from lordship.
The Sun is the monthly graha, with a catch
The Sun stays in one sidereal sign on the order of a month. A birth in the middle of a solar month usually has a stable Sun sign. A birth near the ingress can fall on either side, and the sidereal ingress is not the tropical date printed on a Western sun-sign calendar. Lahiri places the Sun differently from a tropical ephemeris. So even the 'month equals Sun sign' shortcut fails at the edges and fails across zodiacs. The Moon ignores the month entirely and changes sign in a little over two days. The lagna ignores the month and changes sign in about two hours.
Influence, if the word is required
The month influences a numerology workbook. It does not influence the dasha. The weekday lord, Sunday Sun through Saturday Saturn, is a real panchang fact tied to the date, and it is still only the vara, not the chart ruler. If someone offers you a fate from month 7 or month 11, ask them which house that number rules. It rules none. The lagna lord rules the life as a chart. Get the time, or admit you only have a digit.
Frequently asked questions
Does month 1 belong to the Sun?
Only if a numerology table says so. In Jyotish the Sun rules Simha and Sunday. January is a civil month. It is not a rashi and not a vara.
Can the month number pick a gemstone?
No. Gems follow grahas, and grahas follow the lagna's lordships. A digit has no lagna. Wearing ruby because of a month number feeds the Sun regardless of whether the Sun rules your 12th.
Is the Sun sign the month's influence?
It is the nearest astronomy, and only away from the ingress, in the sidereal zodiac. It is one graha. Houses and dashas remain unknown without the birth time.
