Checking Your Chart for a Raja Yoga
To see whether a raja yoga is present, write two short lists from your lagna. Kendras: lords of the 4th, 7th, and 10th. Trikonas: lords of the 5th and 9th. If any name on the first list is conjunct, mutually aspecting, or exchanging signs with any name on the second list, the link is a raja yoga. The lagna lord belongs to both lists, because the 1st is an angle and a trine.

A worked pattern, not a feeling of luck
For Mesha, the kendra lords include the Moon for the 4th, Venus for the 7th, and Saturn for the 10th. The trikona lords are the Sun for the 5th and Jupiter for the 9th. Mars, the lagna lord, can pair with any of them. Jupiter conjunct Saturn is a 9th lord with a 10th lord, which is also dharma-karmadhipati, a named case of the wider rule. Jupiter conjunct the Moon is a 9th lord with a 4th lord, still a raja yoga, a different room. If none of these links exist, you do not have the yoga, however successful the life looks. Success has other causes. The yoga is this link.
Strength and dusthana second jobs
A link between fallen lords is a raja yoga with weak parts. Note it, and do not sell it as a throne. A lord who rules a trikona and a dusthana brings both. For Karka, Jupiter rules the 9th and the 6th. Jupiter conjunct Venus, the 4th lord, is a raja yoga that also carries debt and disease. Say the 6th. Counting 'how many' raja yogas by ignoring second lordships inflates the chart. One clean link whose dasha is running beats five dusty links in a Mercury period that touches none of them.
The proof is the period
If the yoga's lords are not the mahadasha or antardasha, the yoga is natal and quiet. Venus runs 20 years, Saturn 19, Jupiter 16. If one of those is in your link, that is the audible stretch. You do not create the yoga by a Thursday rite. You either have the conjunction, the aspect, or the exchange, or you do not. Parivartana between a kendra lord and a trikona lord is the exchange form, often the strongest to see. Mutual aspect needs you to use real aspects: every graha aspects the 7th, Jupiter also the 5th and 9th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th, Mars the 4th and 8th. A 'feeling' of mutual aspect is not an aspect.
Frequently asked questions
Does everyone have at least one?
Many charts have a weak link because the 7th aspect reaches far. Whether it is worth the name in practice depends on dignity and on whether its lords ever run the dasha.
Is the 1st lord with the 10th lord enough?
Yes. The 1st lord is a trikona lord. The 10th lord is a kendra lord. Their conjunction qualifies. Also note the second house each one rules.
Can Navamsa create a raja yoga the rashi lacks?
The classical link is read in the rashi from the lagna. D9 can show the fruit of those lords. It does not invent a conjunction the birth chart does not have. If you use divisional yogas, say you are doing that.
