Planetary Mantras for the Nine Grahas

Positive change, if a mantra has any, follows one planet. The nine beejas are a list of addresses. They are not a stack to recite for luck.

Nine addresses, not one spell

Planetary mantras work, in remedial Jyotish, as one formula for one graha, and the formulas are not interchangeable. A widely recited set is: Sun, Om hraam hreem hraum sah suryaya namah. Moon, Om shraam shreem shraum sah chandraya namah. Mars, Om kraam kreem kraum sah bhaumaya namah. Mercury, Om braam breem braum sah budhaya namah. Jupiter, Om graam greem graum sah gurave namah. Venus, Om draam dreem draum sah shukraya namah. Saturn, Om praam preem praum sah shanaischaraya namah. Rahu, Om bhraam bhreem bhraum sah rahave namah. Ketu, Om straam streem straum sah ketave namah. Spellings vary slightly by lineage. The graha in the dative does not vary. Using the solar line for a Saturn problem is not a small mistake. It feeds Surya. Saturn's line is the one with Shanaischara.

Choose the graha the chart can bear

Positive change is not promised by reciting all nine. The candidate is the Vimshottari lord if that lord is welcome, or the lagna lord if it is weak and not a dusthana lord you should leave alone. Jupiter's mantra during a 16-year Jupiter mahadasha matches the years. Saturn's mantra during those same years does not convert them into a Shani story, though Saturn's natal placement still exists. For Tula lagna Saturn is yogakaraka and the Saturn line has a real argument. For Karka lagna Saturn rules the 7th and the 8th, and 'positive' can become a louder 8th. Rahu and Ketu mantras are the ones most often abused for control of other people. They are for the nodes' own houses, if used at all, and not for binding a partner. The 7th house is not corrected by Rahu's beej. Weekday practice follows the graha: Sunday Sun, Monday Moon, and so on through Saturday. The weekday is a rhythm, not the reason the mantra fits.

Japa is repetition, not a transaction

A count of 108 is a common rosary. It is not a switch. Nine days, forty days, and similar courses are customs, not Vimshottari. The dasha will still end when it ends. A mantra does not move a debilitated graha out of its neecha sign. The Sun stays fallen in Libra. What repetition can do is keep that graha's topic in front of you while its period runs: courage for Mars, a cleaner mind for the Moon, restraint for Saturn. If the life tightens, stop. A remedy that worsens the house it rules is the wrong remedy, spoken or worn. Gems are the parallel upaya and have the same limit. Do not start sapphire and the Saturn mantra together just because both are Shani. One careful practice is enough. And do not recite a beej against a named enemy. The formula is a salutation, namah, not a weapon.

Frequently asked questions

Which mantra is Saturn's?

Om praam preem praum sah shanaischaraya namah, in the common beej form. The Sun's line names Surya and must not be swapped in.

Should all nine be chanted daily?

No. Match one graha that the chart wants supported, usually the dasha lord or a sound lagna lord. Nine at once strengthens grahas you may need quiet.

Does the mantra cancel debilitation?

No. Neecha bhanga is a condition in the chart, such as the fall-sign's lord in a kendra. Japa does not move the graha to another sign.
