The Guru Yantra and Jupiter's Houses

A Guru yantra is a geometric diagram used in the worship of Jupiter, traditionally on Thursday, Jupiter's vara. It is not a kundli and not a weapon. Jupiter's results still come from the houses it rules from the lagna and from the dasha.

What the object is for

Yantras belong to a ritual geometry associated with a deity or a graha. The Guru yantra is aimed at Brihaspati, the counselor. In the chart that counselor is the graha Jupiter, exalted in Karka, fallen in Makara, lord of Dhanu and Meena. Sitting with the diagram on a Thursday is a way of attending to that graha. It does not cast a lagna. It does not aspect your 9th the way a natal Jupiter does. If Jupiter already aspects the 9th, the chart has the glance. The yantra does not add a second one. If you use it, use it as worship, with the birth chart read separately.

When Jupiter is the right graha to attend

The cleanest case is a lagna where Jupiter rules the 9th or the 5th without also ruling a dusthana you cannot afford. For Dhanu and Meena, Jupiter is the lagna lord. For Simha, Jupiter rules the 5th and the 8th, so a Guru practice feeds intelligence and rupture together. For Mesha, the 9th and the 12th. For Karka, the 6th and the 9th. A yantra sold as pure spirituality skips this arithmetic. Spirituality in the chart is closer to the 9th, the 12th, and Ketu. Jupiter is the guru karaka. Ketu is the moksha flavor. They are not the same office, and a Guru yantra is not a Ketu object.

The 16-year test

Jupiter's mahadasha lasts 16 years. A yantra kept during a Mercury mahadasha is attention paid in the wrong chapter if the hope was Jupiter's results. When Jupiter's period is actually running, the yantra is at least aimed at the lord of the season. It still will not move Jupiter from Makara to Karka, and it will not separate Jupiter from Rahu if they are conjunct. Yellow sapphire is the gem, with the same lordship warning. The diagram, the stone, and the Thursday are three ways of paying attention. The houses are the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Guru yantra replace Jupiter in the chart?

No. The natal Jupiter, its sign, and its house remain. The yantra is an object of worship aimed at that graha.

Is it useful for every lagna?

It attends to Jupiter. Whether Jupiter's houses are welcome depends on the lagna. Simha gives Jupiter the 5th and the 8th. Dhanu gives Jupiter the lagna. Those are different invitations.

Which day belongs to it?

Thursday. Other weekdays belong to other grahas. A Saturday Guru practice is mixing Saturn's vara with Jupiter's object.
