How Gandmool Dosh Is Formed

Gandmool dosha is the Moon sitting in Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola, or Revati, and that same nakshatra opens the Vimshottari dasha. These six are the nakshatras at the junctions where a water sign meets a fire sign: Revati into Ashwini, Ashlesha into Magha, Jyeshtha into Moola. The tighter classical knot is gandanta, the last quarter of Revati, Ashlesha, and Jyeshtha and the first quarter of Ashwini, Magha, and Moola. Popular use of the word Gandmool spreads the label across all four quarters of the six nakshatras. A careful chart says which one it is. A Moon at the junction pada and a Moon merely somewhere in Moola are not the same sentence.

Vimshottari begins from the Moon's nakshatra. A child born in Ashwini starts in Ketu. Ashlesha starts in Mercury. Magha starts in Ketu. Jyeshtha starts in Mercury. Moola starts in Ketu. Revati starts in Mercury. The dosha label and the first mahadasha are the same fact looked at twice. Families who are told to 'remove' Gandmool are being sold an erasure of the Moon's position. The Moon stays in that nakshatra for life. What can be read, and lived, is the condition of the Moon, the house it occupies from the lagna, and whether this opening dasha is Ketu or Mercury. Ketu's opening period is seven years. Mercury's is seventeen. Those lengths are the system, not a prediction pasted onto a stranger.

Shanti rites for a gandmool birth exist in family custom, often performed in infancy, and they are religious acts. They do not move the Moon into Rohini. There is no surefire method that deletes the condition, and any page that offers one is selling a result the chart cannot cash. If the Moon is otherwise strong, in a friendly sign, and away from the 8th house of sudden change, the junction nakshatra is a detail inside a workable chart. If the Moon is also afflicted and the first dasha is hard, the early years need a plain reading, not a panic. Marriage, when it comes up later, is still the 7th house and the D9 Navamsa. Gandmool is not a marriage dosha by itself.
