Gajakesari Yoga and the Question of a Long Life

Count the Moon's sign as one. Jupiter in that sign is Gajakesari in the 1st from the Moon. Jupiter four signs on is the 4th, seven on is the 7th, ten on is the 10th. Jupiter exalted in Karka forms a strong version when the Moon is in Karka, Mesha, Tula, or Makara, because those are the counts that put Karka in a kendra from the Moon. Jupiter debilitated in Makara can still be in a kendra from the Moon and still carry the name, with less dignity. The classical praise is wisdom, regard, and resources of a respectable kind. The praise is not a count of years.

Ayur methods look at the lagna, the 8th house, the 8th lord, Saturn as a karaka of longevity, and the Moon's condition. They sort lives into broad classes. They do not hand a wedding guest a death year, and this page will not invent one. A strong lagna lord and a supported 8th lord are the relevant strengths. Gajakesari can coexist with a damaged 8th, in which case the person may be well regarded and still have an 8th-house story. It can also coexist with a strong 8th, in which case the yoga and the ayur factors simply agree to be helpful. Agreement is not identity.

Jupiter in a kendra from the Moon does not prevent disease, and it does not certify a hospital outcome. The 6th house remains the house of illness. If Jupiter aspects the 6th or rules a dusthana, the yoga and the illness house are both present. Read them as neighbors. The dasha of Jupiter, 16 years, is when Gajakesari is loudest, provided Jupiter is the mahadasha or a major antardasha. Those 16 years are a Vimshottari length. They are not a lifespan.
