A Newborn's Nakshatra Is the Moon's

The birth nakshatra is wherever the Moon sits when the child is born, under the Lahiri ayanamsa. There are twenty-seven mansions. Calling seven of them lucky and the rest unwelcome is a ranking the delivery room does not obey. The Moon will be in some nakshatra. That nakshatra starts the child's Vimshottari, with a balance based on how far the Moon has traveled inside it. Ketu's mansions open a 7-year mahadasha. Venus's open 20. The start is arithmetic, not a prize.

The parent's fifth house is children. It describes the parent's experience of the child, not the child's rising sign. The child's lagna is the first house of that child's self and needs the birth minute and the zone offset, including daylight saving if the place observes it. Naming lucky nakshatras for a welcome ceremony without the time confuses a party with a chart. The fourth house is home, where the child arrives. It is not a nakshatra.
