Incompatible Ascendants: Lovers or Enemies

Incompatible ascendants, when Jyotish uses a hard technical sense, are lagnas in shadashtaka, the 6th and 8th from each other. Mesha lagna and Vrischika lagna are one such pair: Scorpio is the 8th from Aries, and Aries is the 6th from Scorpio. Mesha and Kanya are the 6th-house version. That fact would be false for Mesha and Tula, who are opposite, a 1 and 7 pair, and who are often called enemies in sun-sign writing for the wrong reason. The 6th is conflict and debt. The 8th is rupture and the hidden. Two people whose lagnas fall in each other's 6th and 8th often report friction, unequal effort, or a bond that feels like an argument even when they care. This is a description of the axis. It is not a ban.

Sign friendship in the texts is mainly graha friendship. Mars is friendly to the Sun, the Moon, and Jupiter. Saturn is friendly to Mercury and Venus and hostile to the Sun, the Moon, and Mars. Those friendships judge how a planet feels in a sign. They do not sort twelve ascendants into lovers and enemies. A 'lover sign' poster usually means a trine, the 5th and the 9th, where signs share a tattva: fire with fire, earth with earth. Trine lagnas can understand each other and still marry badly if the 7th lords are weak. Opposite lagnas can marry well. The 7th house is the marriage partner by definition, so the opposite sign is the natural spouse sign of the kalapurusha, not an enemy camp.

Two charts also have Moon signs and Sun signs. A shadashtaka of lagnas can be softened by Moons in a clean bhakoot and a good nadi, or sharpened by Moons that repeat the 6/8. Guna milan does not score the lagnas directly. It scores the nakshatras. After that, each 7th house still rules the relationship more than the rising-sign slogan. D9 can put the 7th lord in a sign that gets along with the partner's lagna lord even when the rashi lagnas are 6 and 8. If you only know sun signs, you do not yet know the ascendants. Calling them lovers or enemies from a birthday is guessing the lagna, which changes every two hours. The incompatibility worth the name is the 6/8 of real lagnas, read with both 7th houses, not a war of zodiac mascots.
