Vedic astrology in Wellington, not the city in the zone name
Wellington shares the zone Pacific/Auckland for vedic astrology, daylight saving included, and still has to be geocoded as Wellington. The zone name is not the hospital. Daylight saving changes the offset during the year, including in the months that are winter in India. Type Wellington and the local time. Do not type Auckland because the zone string looks like a city.

Zone name, then a different city
Pacific/Auckland applies to a Wellington birth, and it observes daylight saving, so summer and winter do not share one offset. The geocoder still wants Wellington. A chart cast for Auckland keeps the seasonal behavior and misses the place. Cape Town has a similar trap with a zone named for Johannesburg, but that zone does not use daylight saving. Here you have both problems: the namesake city, and a clock that moves.
India's fixed clock will not anchor you
Asia/Kolkata stays at UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes all year. A family that subtracts 'the usual gap' and stores the Wellington birth as IST will be off whenever daylight saving is in force, and off differently when it is not. Enter local time. If the only note left is already in Indian time, convert it back to Wellington local time for that date before you select the city. Otherwise the zone is applied twice.
Readings that assume the right instant
The 7th house, its lord, and D9 answer marriage. The 10th and its lord answer career. The Vimshottari dasha already running answers timing, and it needs the daylight-saving offset that date used. The chart is sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa, Swiss Ephemeris. A free account can generate the Kundli and chat. The zone name's city is not a second opinion.

Frequently asked questions
Does vedic astrology call Wellington's zone Pacific/Auckland?
Yes. The zone observes daylight saving, so the offset changes during the year. The birth city remains Wellington. Do not geocode Auckland unless the birth was there.
Does Indian winter tell us whether Wellington was on daylight saving?
Daylight saving in this zone is in force during Indian winter, when India does not change clocks. The chart still needs the Wellington local time, not a fixed gap from Asia/Kolkata.
What if the birth was on the morning the clocks changed?
The record has to identify which offset was in force. That morning can repeat or skip an hour. Do not choose the Wellington lagna that you prefer.
