Visakhapatnam · India
Vedic astrology in Visakhapatnam, also called Vizag
Visakhapatnam is the name to geocode for vedic astrology when the record uses it, including where the family simply says Vizag. The spoken short name and the municipal name should land on one city. The clock is Indian Standard Time, Asia/Kolkata, with no daylight saving. A coast does not award the city a maritime zone. After a move abroad, Vizag still has to be the birthplace if the birth was there.

Vizag is a nickname, not a second town
Enter Visakhapatnam and the time on the paper. If a test with the short name geocodes somewhere odd, prefer the name on the certificate and keep the time identical. Do not 'adjust' minutes because one spelling looked slightly off. The offset is UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes either way. Daylight saving is not available as an explanation when two hasty charts disagree.
Residence abroad rewrites careless forms
The error shows up when a parent, now overseas, fills 'city of birth' with the city of the new job. The software will geocode that city and apply its offset before the Julian day. That is correct behavior for a birth in that city and nonsense for a birth in Visakhapatnam. Start from IST and from the city on the record.
Houses, not the nickname
Nothing in the short name changes the method. Sidereal chart, Lahiri ayanamsa, Swiss Ephemeris. Marriage from the 7th, its lord, and D9. Career from the 10th and its lord. Timing from the Vimshottari dasha already running. A free account can generate the Kundli and chat. Paid plans add a PDF, extra divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts.

Frequently asked questions
Does vedic astrology need a separate zone for Visakhapatnam?
No. The city uses Asia/Kolkata, Indian Standard Time, with no daylight saving. Vizag is another name for Visakhapatnam, not another clock.
Is Vizag safe to type instead of Visakhapatnam?
Prefer the name on the birth record. If that name is Visakhapatnam, use it. Keep the time the same if you ever compare spellings.
We live abroad. Should the birth time be converted before entry?
Enter local Indian Standard Time and the city Visakhapatnam. The chart applies the zone offset. Pre-converting to your current zone and still selecting a foreign city, or the reverse mix-up, shifts the lagna.
