San Jose vedic astrology on Pacific time, not San Francisco
San Jose vedic astrology uses America/Los_Angeles, Pacific time with daylight saving, for the county seat in Santa Clara County. A 12:05 a.m. birth keeps that Pacific offset for the date, standard or daylight, and it is not recalculated as a San Francisco birth just because both cities sit on the bay.

Just after midnight
12:05 a.m. already belongs to the new civil date. The lagna is moving, about a sign every two hours, so the minutes matter, and so does daylight saving. Enter 12:05 a.m. with the date that contains it. Do not slide it back to the previous evening unless the certificate says that. The Pacific offset is then applied to the date you kept.
The Sun stays sidereal
Lahiri places the Sun in the sidereal zodiac. A tropical app can show another sun sign for the same San Jose midnight. That is the ayanamsa, not a South Bay exception. Swiss Ephemeris supplies the positions once America/Los_Angeles has been applied. Read those signs if you want a Kundli.
The 10th only after the date is stable
Career is the 10th house and its lord. They are the wrong houses if the midnight date was flipped. When the time holds, a change of work is timed by the dasha in progress. A free account at jyothish.si can show the Kundli and take that question in chat.

Frequently asked questions
Is San Francisco close enough for a San Jose birth?
No. Both use America/Los_Angeles. The cities geocode differently. Use San Jose if that is the birth city.
What if the birth was at 12:05 a.m.?
Keep the date that contains 12:05 a.m. The Pacific offset for that date, daylight or standard, sets the lagna.
Is the Sun sign sidereal?
Yes. The chart uses Lahiri. A tropical Sun can sit one sign away from this one.
