Vedic astrology in Pune, solar noon after 12:00
Older Pune papers say Poona, and vedic astrology geocodes that same city under Asia/Kolkata whether the birth was in summer or winter. There is no daylight saving to split the year. Pune is west of the meridian near Mirzapur, so solar noon falls after 12:00. The renaming from Poona is a spelling change. The offset remains UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes, applied before the Julian day.

Poona on the certificate
Transcribe the time exactly, including whether it is morning or evening, and enter the city as Pune. Running a second chart under the old spelling to 'see if the software notices' only helps if the two place strings geocode apart by mistake. They should not. If the charts differ, compare the hours you typed before you blame the name.
Same zone as Mumbai, not the same place
Pune and Mumbai are both west of the time meridian, so both have solar noon after 12:00, and both use Indian Standard Time. A family that lives in one and was born in the other still has to name the birth city. The lagna is built from place and time together. Neighboring cities on one national clock are not substitutes.
Dasha after the input is stable
Timing uses the Vimshottari dasha already running. No year is named for it in advance. Marriage reading stays with the 7th, its lord, and D9. Career stays with the 10th and its lord. The calculation is sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa, Swiss Ephemeris. Free use covers a Kundli and chat. A PDF, more divisional charts, and WhatsApp transit alerts come with paid plans.

Frequently asked questions
Does vedic astrology treat Poona and Pune as different cities?
No. Poona is the older name of Pune. The zone is Asia/Kolkata, with no daylight saving. Solar noon falls after 12:00 because Pune is west of the Mirzapur meridian.
Is Pune on a Maharashtra time zone?
India has one civil zone for this purpose, Asia/Kolkata. Pune does not leave it in summer. The local fact is solar noon after 12:00, not a separate offset.
What should we do if the family now lives outside India?
Leave the birth city as Pune and the birth time as Indian Standard Time. Recasting the birth at the new address changes the place and often the offset.
