Memphis vedic astrology, far from the Knoxville clock
Memphis vedic astrology takes America/Chicago for Shelby County, in west Tennessee, where the zone is Central and daylight saving is observed. Knoxville's Eastern clock does not apply at the other end of the state. An 8:50 a.m. Memphis birth stays on the Central offset.

Western city, Central minutes
Knoxville and Chattanooga, in the east, use America/New_York. Nashville and Memphis use America/Chicago. Memphis is Shelby County, the western end. An 8:50 a.m. birth in January is standard Central time. In July it is daylight time. Calling the birth Eastern because Tennessee sits east in the country is the wrong map. Shelby County does not borrow Knoxville's minutes for that hospital clock.
No year is assigned from the river
The Vimshottari dasha already running is what times events. It is calculated from the birth. This page names no start year. After America/Chicago is applied, chat can say which period is active. An Eastern offset borrowed from Knoxville would time some other morning, not this 8:50 a.m.

Frequently asked questions
Is Memphis on Eastern time?
No. Shelby County uses America/Chicago with daylight saving. Knoxville, in east Tennessee, is on Eastern time.
How are events timed?
By the Vimshottari dasha already running, from the birth. No year is taken from the city. The Central offset has to be right first.
Can I draw the chart without paying?
Yes. A free account can draw the Memphis Kundli and ask which dasha is running. The PDF and the WhatsApp transit alerts are a paid step.
