Indianapolis vedic astrology on Eastern time
Indianapolis vedic astrology is timed on America/New_York, because Marion County follows the Eastern majority of Indiana and observes daylight saving. The Gary area in the northwest uses Central time, so a birth in Indianapolis does not take the Gary offset even when both wall clocks show the same hour.

Most of the state, not the northwest corner
Indiana is mostly Eastern. The Gary area is the Central exception. Indianapolis is in the Eastern part, America/New_York, and the clocks still spring forward. A parent who worked in Gary and assumes one Indiana time can put the chart an hour off. The birth city decides, not the commute. Marion County changes clocks with Eastern time. It does not keep the Central offset used around Gary.
The 7th after the hour is chosen
An hour early, the 7th house is a different house. Set the Eastern offset, then read that house, its lord, and the Navamsa. The Gary exception is a clock fact. It is not a statement about marriage. It only exists so the Indianapolis lagna is not the Gary lagna.
Ask which period is active
Vimshottari timing uses the dasha in progress. No year is published here for the city. Cast the Kundli free on jyothish.si and ask in chat which period is running. A PDF, extra divisions of the chart, and WhatsApp transit alerts are paid.

Frequently asked questions
Is Gary on the same zone as Indianapolis?
No. The Gary area in northwest Indiana uses Central time. Indianapolis uses America/New_York and observes daylight saving.
How is marriage read once the zone is right?
From the 7th house, its lord, and D9. The Gary offset is the hour to avoid, because it can move that house.
Which dasha does the chart use?
The Vimshottari dasha already running, from the birth. The city does not assign a year.
