Vedic astrology in Coimbatore, spoken of as Kovai
Coimbatore is the legal name and Kovai the spoken one, and vedic astrology wants that city with the birth timed in Indian Standard Time. Asia/Kolkata does not change in summer. A family working abroad often retypes the city they see on the way to work and leaves Kovai as a story. The story is not what gets geocoded. The field is. If the certificate says Coimbatore, that is the birthplace, at UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes.

Say the name the paper uses
Enter Coimbatore and the recorded time. Kovai should not be required, and it should not be 'corrected' into Chennai because outsiders know Chennai. Chennai is west of the Mirzapur meridian and has its own solar noon, after 12:00. That fact stays in Chennai. Coimbatore is a different city on the same Indian clock, with no daylight saving.
The foreign commute rewrites the form
A birth pre-converted into the new country's hour, then filed under Coimbatore, applies Asia/Kolkata to a time that was already shifted. A birth filed under the new city applies that city's offset, including daylight saving if the zone has it. Either path leaves the delivery room. Type IST. Type Coimbatore. Let the chart apply the offset before the Julian day.
The 10th house is not the job abroad
Career is read from the 10th house and its lord of the birth chart. The country of the present job can be watched with transits. It is not a replacement birthplace, and it does not set the Vimshottari dasha. The chart is sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa, Swiss Ephemeris. A free account can draw the Kundli and chat.

Frequently asked questions
Does vedic astrology treat Kovai as a separate zone from Coimbatore?
No. Kovai is a spoken name for Coimbatore. The zone is Asia/Kolkata, with no daylight saving. Use the time on the certificate.
Should a Coimbatore birth use Chennai's solar noon?
No. Chennai is west of the Mirzapur meridian, so solar noon there falls after 12:00. Coimbatore is entered as its own city on Indian Standard Time.
We live where the clocks change. Do we add an hour to June?
Not for Coimbatore. India does not observe daylight saving. A June birth and a January birth share Asia/Kolkata.
